우정의 선구자
홍영식1855~1884 / Hong Yeongsik
1884년 4월 22일 (음력 3월27일) 우정총국(郵征總局)을 설립하고 초대 총판이 되었다. 1881년(고종18년) 신사유람단의 일원으로 일본에 다녀왔고 1883년에는 부사자격으로 미국의 우정성과 뉴욕 우체국 등을 시찰하였으며 귀국 후 우편제도의 필요성을 고종 황제에 진언하여 1884년 4월 22일 칙명으로 우정총국(郵征總局)을 설립하고 초대 총판(總辦)이 되었다.

홍철주1834~1891 / Hong Cheolju
고종 24년(1887년)에는 조선전보총국(朝鮮電報總局) 초대 총판(總辦)으로 전선가설(電線架設)에 공을 세웠으며, 고종 25년(1888년) 11월과 27년(1890년) 6월 두 차례에 걸쳐 또다시 한성부 판윤(漢城府判尹)에 취임함으로써 한성부 판윤(漢城府判尹)을 5번이나 역임하였다. 후에 형조 판서에 이르렀으며 시호는 효헌(孝獻)이다.
He established the Joseon Directorate General of Telegram, and he was appointed as the first director general of it. He devoted himself to develop the telegram service in Korea.
민상호1870~1933 / Min Sangho
유럽 6개국의 공사관, 참사관, 제5차 만국우편연합총회(UPU) 전권대표를 역임하였으며, 1900년 3월 23일 설립된 대한제국 통신원의 초대 총판으로 임명되었다.
He consecutively filled various government posts such as Director of delegations to 6 European countries and plenipotentiary of the 5th UPU congress. He also contributed to expanding and developing communication services in Korea as the 1st Director General of Communications. (Tongsinwon, 1900)
장화식1852~1938 / Jang Hwaski
고종13년(1876년) 의금부 도사로 입사한 이래 한성부판윤, 육군참장, 통신원회판을 거쳐 총판에 임명되었다. 한일통신기관협정 체결을 반대하여 통신권 피탈에 저항하였으나, 뜻을 이루지 못하고, 예천으로 낙향하여 은거하다가 1938년 일생을 마쳤다.
He worked as an officer of Uigeumbu (Government office which inquired criminals), vice mayor of Seoul, brigadier general of army, vice president of DGC(Directorate General of Communications). He, however, tragically experienced the deprivation of communications right by Japan.
